The potential Impact of National Public Data’s security breach may impact gyms.

This week the Federal Trade Commission announced its final “Click-to-Cancel” rule. The goal of the legislation is to make it easier for consumers to end recurring subscriptions like; you guessed it….gym memberships.

The news isn’t all bad though. The team at the Health & Fitness Association worked heard to remove three elements that would have been much more onerous for fitness operators.

1. Annual Reminder Requirement Removed: No need for annual reminders for gym memberships.

2. Retention Flexibility Preserved: You can still offer pauses, freezes, and tier adjustments when members look to cancel.

3. Secure Cancellation Processes: The rule includes critical safeguards against fraud and unauthorized cancellations.

Number 2 above is where the opportunity is. I recently saw a demo of the DXFactor Cancel Save Widget. The tool integrates to your billing software and guides members who might otherwise cancel though a save journey with configurable offers that can include free time, dues credits or freeze options; enticing the member to reconsider. This tool, and others like it, are part of the accelerated digital transformation that our industry has seen over the past several years. Good work to Dharmesh Trivedi, Ron Benamor and the DX team who you can meet The Fitness Technology Summit this week!. Share your tech enabled digital success stories in the comments! See you in Vegas.
